The Young King

April 23, 2018
A picture of a people gathering

For the first time ever, Carlsen Center Arts Education puts The Young King on the Yardley Hall stage. The play is designed to be intimate, so there will be a limit of 250 individuals per show to experience the event. With many shows at Carlsen focused solely on curriculum ties to math and science, the message of The Young King brings human tenderness to the forefront with a story about privilege, compassion, and making ethical choices. The story by Oscar Wilde is adapted by Nicki Bloom for the stage. The story begins before the titular prince is born, when the old king banishes his daughter for refusing to marry a wealthy suitor. The story revolves around familiar ethical conundrum that children can relate to and understand. It is a simple enough tale that finishes wrapped with a tidy bow. Large school groups will receive priority seating. General public seating will be on a first-come and first-seated basis in specif sections of the theater. Regardless of age, each person attending the performance must have a ticket. If you are attending with an infant or toddler, “lap tickets” may be purchased at the box office, 913-469-4445.
