Sunflower Festival

The First Annual Mission Sunflower Festival in Mission, KS, begins this year. The event is free to the public and kicks off this Friday night. The Mission Business Partnership is organizing the event along with co-sponsors, Direct Computer Outlet, The Bar, Capitol Federal, Springboard Creative, and Twisted Sisters Coffee Shoppe. The festival will include live music, games, food trucks, a beer garden, artists, entertainers, and a Saturday morning parade. The parade will include Shawnee Mission North’s R.O.T.C., Girl Scouts, Boy Scouts, The Renaissance Festival characters, race cars, the City of Mission elected officials, Sisters on the Fly, children on bicycles, dogs, vintage scooters, Veterans of Foreign Wars on motorcycles, Shawnee Mission East’s Marching Band and cheerleaders, and more. There will be face painting and balloon tosses. Sixteen artists will be displaying and selling their art. To celebrate sunflowers, there will be a sunflower seed spitting contest, a flower-arranging contest, and a contest to guess how many sunflower seeds are in one jar. The event ends on Saturday night.

Downtown Mission, KS on Johnson Drive.
When:
Kick-off on Friday, August 25th at 6:00pm. Parade on Saturday, August 26th at 9:00am.
