It’s that time of the year again. Summer is winding down, the kids are restless, and school is just around the corner. Getting ready for school means stocking up on backpacks, notebooks, and other school supplies. It also means refreshing that back-to-school wardrobe. This weekend is tax-free shopping, which means no sales tax will be applied to purchases made between August 4-6. Certain purchases will not be exempt from taxes. Check for local tax information. In celebration of this weekend, there are a few local events going on. Independence Center mall is celebrating the entire weekend with face painting, a backpack customization center, giveaways, and a selfie station. The Legends Outlet is celebrating with an entire day of festivities called the Legends Back 2 School Bash on Saturday, August 5th. The event will feature drawings and giveaways, healthy snacks, a mascot dance off, and more. There will be obstacle courses and relay races. The day will close with an evening concert in the center courtyard by family-friendly musician and award-winning kid rocker Jim “Mr. Stinky Feet” Cosgrove and his band, The Hiccups. The event is co-hosted by 8th Street Family YMCA. There will also be community involvement and appearance by Kansas City Kansas Fire Department, Kansas City Kansas Police Department, Sporting Kansas City, and more.
