This weekend, the Negro Leagues Baseball Museum will host its 2017 Heart of America Hot Dog Festival. The festival started in 2013 to commemorate the connection between hot dogs and American’s favorite past time, baseball. This year’s festival will feature live music by Adam Hawley, Jeanette Harris, Bloodstone, After 7, and ZAPP. More importantly, the festival will feature specialty hot dogs. This year’s debut dog, “El Maestro,” is named after the Cuban-born player, Martin Dihigo. Dihigo is the to be honored in five different country’s Halls of Fame, including the United States, Mexico, Cuba, Venezuela, and the Dominican Republic. The hot dog, “El Maestro,” is a grilled bratwurst topped with chorizo chili, pico de gallo, queso fresco, and garnished with tortilla strips. Other hot dogs featured will be the “Royal Frank” named after former Kansas City Royal, Frank White, Jr. There will also be other ballpark foods, interactive games, and admission to the museum. Negro Leagues Baseball Museum will be open for it’s regular hours, 9:00am – 6:00pm. Museums at the 18th & Vine complex will close at 6:00 pm.
