You Can Get a Crown in One Visit

February 13, 2018

Dealing with your dental needs can take the backseat when you have a busy life. It is not unusual for people to put taking care of themselves and their oral health last on the list of things to do during the day.  With CEREC technology, you can get a dental crown in a single visit. Traditionally, the process for getting a dental crown requires getting a mold of your mouth to send it out to a third-party lab for creation of the crown. Sending your mold out of the office could take one week or more to get the crown. Getting a crown in a single visit can mean getting immediate protection for a tooth that is vulnerable, which allows you to get back to your busy life.

What Is Cerec Technology?

CEREC is an anagram for Chairside Economical Restoration of Esthetic Ceramics. The technology enables you to get a same-day crown. The creation of the crown takes place in your dentist’s office instead of being created in a third-party lab. To do so, your dentist will take digital scans of your tooth, bite, and mouth. Digital scans are more precise and comfortable than physical molds. The scans and measurements will be sent to an onsite milling lab. This is typically finished in less than an hour, which allows for your dentist to fit you with your custom crown in that same visit.

Importance of Getting a Crown

Whether it has just been treated with an endodontic root canal therapy or it has been severely fractured, it is essential that a vulnerable tooth receives protection. A dental crown acts like a permanent helmet to protect the damaged tooth from further decay or damage. A crown’s protection may be able to help prevent the need for a root canal treatment or dental extraction. Leaving a vulnerable tooth unprotected can increase your risk of losing that tooth.
