The groundbreaking exhibition Through the Eyes of Picasso will explore the artist’s life-long fascination with African and Oceanic art by bringing together his paintings and sculpture. The exhibition goes until April 8th at The Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art in Kansas City. This will be the only United States venue in a very limited tour of the exhibition. Many of the pieces of art in the exhibition will be in America for the first time. Picasso was an avid collector of non-western art and they were a constant source of inspiration for the work throughout his career. This influence caused a radical transformation of modern art. The exhibition features 170 works of art, including more than 60 paintings, sculptures, and ceramics by Picasso along with more than 20 works of African and Oceanic art that were part of his personal collection. Through the Eyes of Picasso exhibition also will feature a selection of intimate, personal photos of the artist at work and at play. If you visit the exhibition, you will be able to see works that Picasso created, collected, lived with, and kept with him through numerous moves in his life. Many of the pieces are still owned by his family, and others that are in the Picasso Museum in Paris.
