Schedule a Summer Hygiene Visit for Your Family

June 3, 2019

Summer is the perfect time to schedule a visit for your family. You no longer have to worry about your kids missing school or conflicts with after school activities! A routine visit helps prepare your family for the coming school year. In today’s blog, we’re looking at what makes a checkup and cleaning so vital for smiles in Kansas City, MO.p

Teeth Checking

Dental Checkups With Digital Technology

During your checkup portion, we want to obtain a detailed picture of your oral health. We will employ digital x-rays, which use significantly less radiation and obtain more detailed images faster, to look at your teeth, gums, and jaw. We will also capture images with an intraoral camera. We then have chance to see what’s usually invisible to the naked eye, looking for signs of tooth decay and gum disease in the earliest stages. Our office will also screen for oral cancer and look at the teeth for signs of wear and friction that could indicate teeth grinding or TMJ disorder. Treating issues early helps improve oral health and prevent the need for more extensive treatments down the road.

Cleanings and Scalings and Root Planings

During your smile visit, we will clean you and your family’s teeth. A cleaning means using a device to remove all plaque and tartar from the surface of your teeth. Removing this bacterial byproduct helps reduce the chances of tooth decay and gum disease, as well as discoloration and bad breath. If you have serious inflammation or the early stages of gum disease and haven’t had a cleaning in a while, we may need to perform a deep cleaning, known as a scaling and root planing, to remove plaque from the teeth and the roots. Along with your checkup, you need to have your teeth cleaned every six months, beginning at age three. If you have risk factors for gum disease, we may suggest one every three to four months.

Preventive Care

We can also discuss preventive care for your children, such as fluoride treatments and dental sealants, to help avoid tooth decay. We also want to talk about better homecare, such as proper brushing and flossing, improved diets, and other habits that could help boost your smile’s health and appearance. If you have any questions about caring for your smile from home ,or about our six month preventive visits, then contact our team today.
