schedule family hygiene visit

Your entire family, from the youngest to the oldest member, benefits from a routine hygiene appointment with your Kansas City, MO, dentist. These exams and cleanings help protect smiles of all ages from a variety of serious oral health concerns. In today’s blog, we’re going to talk about why you should always schedule a routine visit every six months!

Checkups

The dental checkup is a major part of the visit, and something both kids and adults need. A checkup involves the dentist obtaining a detailed picture of the state of your oral health. Using digital x-rays and intraoral cameras, we can obtain clear digital images with accuracy and precision, seeing warning signs of trouble that may not be visible to the naked eye, or that may lie beneath the gums. Our team typically watches for indicators of cavities, infections, abscesses, gingivitis and gum disease. We also look for the warning signs of TMJ disorder and bruxism, jaw joint disorders linked to headaches, jaw pain, and damaged teeth. For adults, we will perform an oral cancer screening as well.

Dental Cleanings

After we examine your smile, we will perform a cleaning. Using an ultrasonic scaler and a manual tool, our team will remove all plaque and tartar buildup from the surface of your teeth. The procedure helps reduce the risk of weakened tooth enamel and inflamed gum tissue, keeping tooth decay and gum disease at bay. The procedure also helps brighten teeth and even offers fresher breath.

When Should I See the Dentist?

Typically, we suggest a visit every six months for people ages two and older. However, if you have high risk factors for gum disease, we may suggest one every three to four months. Now, if in between your visits you begin to notice aching or sensitivity in one or more of your teeth, or if you gums begin to feel sore, look red, or bleed easily, then please let us know, as these are symptoms of tooth decay and gum disease, symptoms that require immediate attention. If you have any questions about our approach to preventive dental care, or if you’re ready to schedule a visit for you or a member of your family, then contact our team today.
