Start Your Summer With a Checkup

June 10, 2021

Before you head out on your vacation (or staycation), we would like to see you and your family for a checkup visit. A routine exam is essential for maintaining good oral health, and an attractive smile too. In today’s blog, your Kansas City, MO, dentist wants to explain why you need a checkup, and what you should expect from the visit.

Checkup Visits

We want to see you and your family members at least once every six months. Serious oral health issues tend to take months to form, so a visit every few months means we can identify them in the earliest stages, catching them before discomfort develops or the balance of the smile is upset. During the visit, we use digital x-rays and intraoral cameras to gather detailed images of your smile. These images let us walk you through the diagnostic process, as we can screen them chairside, and lets us better diagnose the presence of poor oral health. These visits are great for kids and adults alike!

Signs of Trouble

If in between these six month visits you experience potential signs of trouble, we suggest a visit to let us assess the potential risk to your smile. For example, if you or a member if your family notice sensitive teeth or toothaches, this could indicate the presence of tooth decay or an infection. Headaches and jaw pain could be a sign of TMJ disorder or bruxism (chronic teeth grinding). If your gums feel sore or bleed easily, this could mean gingivitis or gum disease. Once you notice discomfort, the issue has reached a later stage and attention is critical to keep your smile whole and healthy.

Dental Cleanings

During your checkup visit we also clean your teeth. Using an ultrasonic scaling device and a manual tool our team will remove all plaque and tartar buildup from the teeth. Doing so helps lower the risks of tooth decay and gum disease, and could also fights bad breath and teeth stains too!

Stay Safe!

During the summer, take steps to keep your smile safe. Wear a mouthguard if you play sports, and also be sure to drink plenty of water to balance out sports drinks and other sugary and acidic beverages. Be sure to schedule your checkup visit too, and brush and floss daily. If you have any questions about the benefits of our preventive visits, or if you would like to schedule one, then contact our team today.
