Let’s Brighten Your Smile With Professional Whitening

Young handsome man

Teeth whitening helps brighten your smile, and our options can offer more dramatic results than your usually store-bought selections. In today’s blog, your Kansas City, MO, dentist will look at our different options, and which ones might be right for you. We’re also going to discuss ways to keep your smile bright.

Trays and Gel

We have a teeth whitening option that you can use from home! First, we could create a set of custom-made trays based on detailed impressions taken of your smile. We then send you home after this with the trays and a powerful bleaching gel. We could also offer disposable trays pre-filled with gel. At home, you fill the trays with gel or wear the pre-filled ones for about 30 minutes to 45 minutes a day. The trays ensure even results across your smile and prevent saliva from diluting the gel. The process takes about one week to ten days to obtain optimal results. You can then keep the custom trays and leftover gel for touch-ups down the road, or your system may include a special pen for touch-ups.

In-Office Results

We also have an in-office option that offers results in one to two hours. When you arrive at the office, we will apply a special protective covering to the lips and gums. We then apply the bleaching gel to the teeth. Instead of using a hot, uncomfortable light to activate the gel, this will be chemically activated. This brightens smiles by several shades and is perfect if you need results quickly before a big event or date!

Keeping Teeth Bright

These treatments help remove stains and offer a brighter smile, but you can also take steps to help these new results last for longer periods. First, avoid cigarettes and tobacco products, and also cut back on drinks with dark pigments, which stain teeth. You should avoid sugary and starchy foods too, as this encourages the plaque buildup that makes stains more visible. At home, be sure you brush and floss daily to remove food particles and limit plaque, and schedule a visit for a cleaning every six months. The cleaning removes all plaque and also involves polishing your teeth for a brighter appearance too. If you have permanent teeth stains, we could even mask them with dental bonding and porcelain veneers.
