This weekend is Father’s Day and there are plenty of ways to celebrate in Kansas City. While there’s nothing wrong with getting dad a new tie or another coffee mug, hanging out with dad doing fun stuff may be a better event. This week in and near Kansas City, there are plenty of fun to be had with dad.

Fun in Kansas City This Weekend

1. Spend Father’s Day at the Kansas City Zoo with complimentary admission for all dads. Celebrate the day by learning how the dads of the Animal Kingdom take care of their families, especially Radi, the father figure of the gorilla troop, including his three-year-old Masika. Learn how important the male penguins are in the nesting and chick rearing process at the Helzberg Penguin Plaza.
2. This weekend the Kansas City Royals face the Houston Astros, so you could take your dad out to the ballgame. Kauffman Stadium is home of the Kansas City Royals. While at the stadium, you can visit the Royals Hall of Fame, dine in a right-field sports bar while taking in a Fox Sports pregame show, or practice some swings in the “Little K” batting practice area.
3. Gold and platinum passholders of Worlds of Fun can purchase up to four Bring-A-Friend tickets at an exclusive discount on Sunday, June 17.
4. If dad has some daughters (or if he’s a Disney fan himself), the family may want to check out Disney’s The Little Mermaid at the Theater in the Park. Bring a blankets or chairs and a picnic for an enjoy an evening under the stars! Tickets are $8 for adults, $6 for youth (ages 4-10), and free for children under the age of three. The box office opens at 6:30 pm, gates open at 7:00 pm, and curtain is at 8:30 pm.
