IV sedation is essential for making dental procedures and treatments easier and more comfortable for our patients.
Various sedation techniques, such as “laughing gas,” are employed in dental practices that focus on patient comfort – like Cosmetic & Implant Dentistry of Kansas City. Our oral surgeons also offer dental IV sedation for patients who need it.
IV sedation is often the best for helping patients remain calm and comfortable. Cosmetic & Implant Dentistry is one of few practices in the Kansas City area to offer it to patients.
Unlike nitrous oxide (known as laughing gas), conscious sedation, or local anesthetics, administering IV sedation requires careful dosages and monitoring.
During IV sedation, medication is administered intravenously – directly into your bloodstream – for almost immediate calming effects. Because it is the deepest level of dental sedation, it is typically recommended only for patients with severe anxieties, phobias, or special needs. It also is ideal for any patient undergoing oral surgery, such as dental implant placement.
Can I drive myself home after receiving IV sedation?
No. Unlike nitrous oxide that wears off rapidly, IV sedation takes time for your body to eliminate and process it. If you’re receiving IV sedation for a dental procedure, you’ll need to arrange a ride home with a trusted friend or family member.
