Stay Comfortable With Dental Sedation
We often find that our patients with dental anxiety put off even routine care due to concerns about past experiences, or as a result of lack of experience. In addition, even people who attend routine checkups and cleanings every six months could feel apprehensive about undergoing oral surgery and other major treatments. To help our Kansas City, MO, patients feel comfortable, we provide safe, office-based IV sedation. In today’s blog, find out how we help patients with anxiety, or those undergoing oral surgery, remain calm and relaxed.
When We Prescribe Sedation Dentistry
We often recommend this for people undergoing oral surgical procedures, or more than one treatment in a visit. For example, we may use this option for people receiving dental implants, or having a tooth extracted. The dental sedative also helps those undergoing jawbone grafting or ridge augmentation. A calming solution also assists those with severe phobias about visiting the dentist, or high levels of anxiety, so they can attend their visit calm and relaxed. We also help those with developmental issues or other concerns that make receiving necessary care a difficult process. We’re proud to offer this for our patients, and in fact, we’re one of the few general practices in the Kansas City area that provides IV sedation!
The IV Sedation Process
The sedation will be administered intravenously, moving our patients into a very deep and prolonged state of relaxation, with little to no memory of the procedure itself. The process will be monitored by a trained anesthesiologist, who will be on hand the entire time. We also take several factors into consideration before prescribing this option, including your medical history. The effects are nearly immediate.
What Happens Next?
Following treatment, the effects will take time to wear off. You should have a friend or family member ready to drive you home, and you should avoid operating heavy machinery or driving until the effects wear off completely. We will send you home with detailed aftercare instructions, and schedule follow-up visits to monitor you as you heal. We’re happy to explain what exactly your treatment will entail, and answer any questions or concerns you may have.
