May is almost over and Memorial Day is this weekend, which means that summer is getting closer. There are plenty of things to do in Kansas City to both honor the true meaning of Memorial Day, while also celebrating the warmer weather moving into town. This Weekend: Things to Do
- Admission to the National World War I Museum and Memorial is free for veterans and active duty military personnel, while general admission for the public is half-price this weekend (Friday-Monday, May 25-28, 2018). This weekend will include several events during the course of the weekend for people of all ages and interests. This includes a free public ceremony at 10 a.m. on Memorial Day that will feature a keynote address from former astronaut and space shuttle commander, Jon McBride. Additionally, the Museum invites the public to “Find Your World War I Connection” by discovering how the War affected your family through records and photographs through a variety of programs throughout the week.
- The Kansas City Symphony’s 16th annual patriotic concert, Celebration at the Station, is at Union Station. The event is the largest free Memorial Day weekend festival in the Midwest of the United States. The celebration will feature a symphony concert with a fireworks display. The event is open to the whole family, and will include pre-concert musical acts, food trucks, Lee Jeans Family Zone, services for veterans, along with activities inside Union Station and the National World War I Museum and Memorial.
